Fishing in Appalachia Guides
Once you’ve started fishing in Appalachia, you’ll quickly find yourself with piles of fish—and no clear use for them beyond displaying or cooking. But tucked away near the pier is Linda-Lee, and it turns out she’s got a legendary appetite.
To get started, you’ll need to collect Fish Bits. These are crafted items made from the fish you catch across Appalachia. After reeling one in, head to any cooking station. There, you’ll be able to break the fish down into either Fish Bits or Glowing Fish Bits, depending on the species. Don't forget to equip the Super Duper Perk Card under Luck.
Fish Type | Fish Bit Yield |
Small Fish | 1 Fish Bit |
Medium Fish | 2 Fish Bits |
Large Fish | 5 Fish Bits |
Glowing Small Fish | 2 Fish Bits |
Glowing Medium Fish | 4 Fish Bits |
Glowing Large Fish | 10 Fish Bits |
Local Legends | 25 Fish Bits |
Axolotl | 25 Fish Bits |
It’s worth noting that Fish Bits spoil over time—just like cooked food. If you’re not turning them in right away, stash them in a Cryo Freezer or Fridge to keep them fresh.
Once you’ve cooked some Bits, head over to Linda-Lee’s Chum Trough.

When you interact with the trough, you’ll be prompted to choose either 5, 10, 25, or All your Fish Bits or Glowing Fish Bits, depending on what you’re carrying. If you’re holding both, you’ll need to interact twice—once for each type.

Each time you hit 25 Bits, one random item is selected from a legendary reward list and deposited in your inventory. If you feed less than 25 Bits, the game saves your progress until you reach the next full set.
This system has no daily limit. You can feed 25 Bits today, 100 tomorrow, or 5 here and there across multiple days—it all adds up. For example:
Feed 5 Bits, five times = 25 total → 1 reward
Feed 47 Bits = 1 reward, with 22 value saved toward your next one
Feed 100 Bits = 4 rewards
Progress is tracked individually per player, not per world. It’s not a group effort, and no one else can interfere with your contributions.
Legendary Item drop rates:
Reward Type | Chance |
1★ Melee Weapon | 8.333% |
2★ Melee Weapon | 8.333% |
3★ Melee Weapon | 8.333% |
1★ Ranged Weapon | 8.333% |
2★ Ranged Weapon | 8.333% |
3★ Ranged Weapon | 8.333% |
1★ Body Armor | 12.5% |
2★ Body Armor | 12.5% |
3★ Body Armor | 12.5% |
1★ Power Armor | 4.167% |
2★ Power Armor | 4.167% |
3★ Power Armor | 4.167% |
Linda-Lee’s Chum Trough is a reliable and repeatable way to turn your fishing into legendary loot. There’s no daily cap, no expiration on your progress, and no penalty for feeding in small chunks. The system is built around your cumulative effort, and as long as you keep fishing, you’ll keep getting rewarded.
